"Prato, the Medieval textile town" is a concept of museum -
adapted to the needs and changing of times - that does not substitute the
traditional museum but, on the contrary, represents its new aspect.
The main difference between the traditional museum and this new "intelligent"
form of museum is that the visitor has no longer a passive role, limited
to the observation of the works on display, but is now able to establish
a more personal and playful relation with the subjects presented as one
is spurred on to try, experiment, go deeper and interact.
"Prato, the medieval textile town" is a virtual museum as it
offers a visit to the town rebuilt on the basis of a three-dimensional layout.
The visit takes place during the lapse of time of one day, on 21 March 1492,
day of the vernal equinox and year of the historical passage from the Middle
Ages to the Renaissance. The town has been completely reconstructed on a
scale, and all the buildings of major and historical importance have been
recreated internally and externally as they must have appeared at that time.
